The Methods & Tools Seminar is a two semester teaching format, jointly offered by the four root disciplines of the Urban Design Master Program:
  • Architecture
  • Urban Planning
  • Landscape
  • Architecture and Sociology

In four teaching blocks, selected scientific methods of each discipline are introduced and practiced. Within the blocks, methodological and theoretical inputs alternate with practical examples and exercises, using concrete case studies in Berlin.

The aim is to give a broad overview of the methods and tools available for Urban Design research and practice – mirroring the interdisciplinary nature of the Master Course. Following the four teaching blocks – in the second half of the summer term – students chose one method/tool for further exploration and application in an individual project. The result is a collective Methods & Tools Manual, which will develop and extend year by year.
